Guinness Anchor Berhad occupies a
land area of 23.72 acres and is the first brewery in Malaysia to receive the MS
1480: 2007 Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Certification from
the Ministry of Health in August 2002. In 2010, the brewery have upgraded to MS
ISO 9001: 2008.
The brewery brews Guinness,
Heineken, Kilkenny, Tiger, Tiger Radler, Anchor Smooth, Anchor Strong and
Anglia Shandy. GAB also imported brands like Paulaner, Strongbow, Kirin
Ichiban, Smirnoff Ice, and a new member in the line, Affligem. It also produces
non-alcoholic Malta.
You’ll notice a big compound with
a few buildings. On top of one of the main buildings is a big red sign board
that says “GAB” which stands for Guinness Anchor Berhad if you drive down the
Federal Highway from Subang to KL and back often enough
For a major brewery in Malaysia,
it only makes sense for Guinness Anchor Berhad (GAB) to have their own pub in
their brewery backyard. Named The Tavern (I’d like to believe for really
obvious reasons), it serves as as GAB’s training ground for bartenders (because
knowing how to pour the perfect pint is a mastery course). Visitations to The
Tavern is also a staff perk.
The interior of The Tavern is
tastefully decorated and feels warm and cozy. I like the ambience of the pub
and there is in fact a real boiler used in the brewery adorning the bar. Nice! The
Tavern has a wide array of beer on tap. The good people at Heineken were kind
enough to provide us with a free flow of beer!
